Christmas Greetings and Retrospect 2025

Dear customers, partners and friends

Life always writes the best stories. 2025 is almost over, and we can look back on great projects and their progress, growth in our team, and the acquisition of Heusch/Boesefeldt by the transport technology group SWARCO.

Enjoy our latest news!

Modernization of active traffic management control systems in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony)

The sub-center (SC) for the controlling and monitoring of the two active traffic management systems (ATMS) on the A2 and A7 motorways was handed over in full to the Northwest branch of Autobahn GmbH at the beginning of the year and was then put into productive operation by the latter. But the system was not only technically modernized. The control center now uses the new control logic in accordance with the updated German guideline for the creation of traffic control centers (MARZ 2018). With a length of 160 km and approx. 100 display panels per direction of travel, the ATMS A2 is the largest ATMS in Germany.

This sub-center now forms the basis for further technological and spatial expansions. Already in progress are the connection of the A37 ATMS as part of the former control system for the Messeschnellweg expressway and the expansion of the traffic situation display to include the network control system.

When it comes to TLS (technical specifications for outstations) communications, we continually adapt our KRI (communication controller) solution to meet the challenges posed by existing hardware in particular.

Telematics platform Germany for all traffic control centers of the Autobahn GmbH

At the beginning of 2025, Heusch/Boesefeldt was commissioned by Autobahn GmbH to create the Telematics Platform Germany (TPF-DE). By the second half of 2026, all nine traffic control centers in Germany will have a TPF-DE system and will use it to transmit data to the Verkehrszentrale Deutschland (Traffic Control Center Germany) or to transfer signals from the NORA (Network Operation and Road Application) system to variable message signs and information boards.

The project is the continuation and expansion of the first four telematics platforms, which were already successfully used to manage traffic flows during the 2024 European Football Championship.

Project launch INSA – Intelligent user-oriented traffic control on motorways

Active traffic management systems (ATMS) with their LED variable traffic signs ensure greater safety and better traffic flow on around 3,500 kilometers of road in Germany by automatically displaying dynamic speed limits and hazard warnings. The INSA program is designed to optimize the control of these systems and harmonize them throughout Germany.

The project is divided into three sub-projects, which are being implemented by different contractors on behalf of Autobahn GmbH des Bundes. Heusch/Boesefeldt was commissioned for sub-project 2, “Traffic Management”.

In addition to implementing the new control software based on modern middleware and virtualization technologies, the contract also covers the migration of all existing sub-centers to the new environment and subsequent operation for up to 14 years.

In 2025, the basic control procedures were implemented in subproject 2 “Traffic Management” based on the current MARZ 2018 with significant additions in terms of situation recognition and propagation. We are planning the first release for the first quarter of 2026, in which all subprojects will jointly present their results in a training environment for the operators of the pilot systems.

ASFINAG milestone reached

At the end of June this year, together with our project partners EBP and evon, we were able to migrate the last of nine regional traffic management centers for ASFINAG to the new VMIS 2.0 (traffic management and information system), thus successfully completing the Austria-wide rollout. This means that all infrastructure on Austria's motorways and expressways is now controlled by this system, including more than 160 tunnels.

ASFINAG is now focusing on integrating further innovative solutions into the system environment. For example, the connection to the operations manager app automatically integrates information from the road that previously had to be reported by telephone and entered manually. In addition, an interface to ASFINAG's C-ITS system has been integrated, which will allow information collected by vehicles to be incorporated into traffic management in the future.

Monitoring audit passed with top rating

For 28 years, Heusch/Boesefeldt has stood for certified quality in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001. In October, we passed our first surveillance audit following recertification last year without any deficiencies. This success confirms once again that we not only maintain our high quality standards, but also continuously develop them further. We feel reaffirmed in our approach by this renewed certification.

It's great to have you here!

We are delighted to announce that we have recruited some fantastic new colleagues to join Heusch/Boesefeldt in 2025.

Paul and Anastasiia bring a refreshing new perspective to our front-end team, while Laura and Fabian are now supporting our back-end development team. All four quickly decided to join us, in part because they can engage in modern software development and create meaningful products with us.

This year, we are once again training a work-study student, Marcin. He is studying applied mathematics and computer science at Aachen University of Applied Sciences and, at the same time, he is completing his practical training as a MATSE (mathematical-technical software developer) at Heusch/Boesefeldt GmbH. We are keeping our fingers crossed for him and wish him the best of luck!

A warm welcome to the team – we look forward to working with you and to the many exciting projects at Heusch/Boesefeldt.

Heusch/Boesefeldt joins SWARCO

In addition to the projects described above, the acquisition of the Heusch/Boesefeldt GmbH shares by the SWARCO Group  was, of course, the most significant event for us this year.

This ensures the long-term future of the company. It gives our employees the security of a permanent and interesting job and our clients the certainty of a sustainable investment for every order. This applies in particular, of course, to all the projects that have already been implemented.

We were warmly welcomed into the SWARCO family and, after just a few months, we can already see the opportunities that will open up in the coming years in a company that operates globally and in all areas of traffic management.

With this in mind, we are looking forward to the coming years with confidence and optimism and wish you all a peaceful and relaxing Christmas and a successful start into the new year 2026.

Yours sincerely

Berthold Jansen, Dr. Dirk Hübner
