Looking back without anger
Fragments of a colourful year 2012

What can happen in 9.63 seconds? You can learn for instance that you are the new Federal President or you can leave your competitors behind in a stunning 100 meter run just as Usain Bolt did at the Olympic Games. Our most interesting age once again had a lot in stock this year. Apart from the many surprising, happy and thought-provoking events there were unfortunately also sad and inexplicable moments.

There was the cute little dog from the movie the „The Artist“ which reaped all the Oscars. Three days of hoarseness in and around the BVB camp when they won the German Championship again. The first coloured US president was re-elected. Did it stand out even more than his first election? At the Olympic Games in England the German swimming team goes belly up – just as the Costa Concordia: One of the more tragic moments in 2012. After the brief term in office of his predecessor Joachim Gauck becomes Germany’s new Federal President.

One person who definitely needs to be mentioned here as well is the one who broke the sonic barrier - Felix Baumgartner. From a height of 39 km he dashed towards the earth with a speed of 1,342.8 km/h.

After this brief recollection of some of the events of this passing year we would like to present you with last year’s news from our company.

But before you continue there is a little prize question without a prize: Who is Vadim Belon? The solution will be provided below.

The highlights 2012 at Heusch/Boesefeldt can best be summed up by the event of the year, the 19. ITS World Congress in Vienna.

Germany – under the organisation of ITS Germany e.V. and ITS Network Germany - for the first time presented itself at a shared booth at an ITS World Congress. Heusch/Boesefeldt was also represented at this booth at the end of October in Vienna.

For our team the Congress has been a huge success: inspiring discussions, talking shop, socialising, the cultivating of old and new contacts and the successful presentations by two of our colleagues. Interested visitors gained insights into our latest developments such as

  • the stylised representation of the road network down to lane level generated from a complete digital stock of maps   more
  • our car2X centre from the simTD-Project   more

  • the new traffic control algorithm AixProB   more

Technical details to our developments can be found in the respective news articles on our homepage which you can find via the specified links.

The direct contact especially to our customers is very important to us. Such being the case we would like to thank you and all our visitors, that so many of you came to see us at our booth.

Here we want to take the opportunity to mention the smashing organization of our Austrian neighbours, making this congress a really successful event.

Solution to our prize question without a prize: The taxi driver Vadim Belon was the first person to know that Joachim was to become the new Federal President.
