We congratulate Dr. Christoph Schwietering who is working as a traffic engineer in our company on attaining the award for early stage researchers of the heureka foundation.
On the occasion of the HEUREKA congress held every 3 years the foundation presents up-and-coming academics with an award that includes prize money of 5.000 Euro as a recognition for outstanding academic accomplishments in the area of decision making and optimisation methods in traffic engineering.

Award-winner Dr. Christoph Schwietering with Dr. Manfred Garben
With this award self-developed academic papers are recognised, which are dealing with solutions for optimisation problems in traffic engineering and have proved to be successful in practice. According to the jury these criteria can be applied especially to the work of Mr. Schwietering who was able to convince the committee with his paper „The utilisation of the probability of traffic flow breakdown in traffic control“.
In his address, the chairman of the board of the foundation, Dr. Manfred Garben, emphasised the advantages of the concept for the application in active traffic management drawn up by Schwietering. Compared to the usual procedures according to MARZ, the new approach improves the control recommendations of traffic management systems and considerably reduces the false alarm rate. In addition to this the algorithm works without time-consuming parameter optimisation, which is required and has to be updated regularly for the MARZ algorithms.
We share the joy over this award with our colleague who made himself a belated (by one day) birthday present by receiving this prize.
